Structural Condition Survey

Summary

The multi-storey buildings consist of a series of retail units, offices, and an indoor market. The buildings within the premises are understood to be constructed at a different time between 1899 and 1923 and part of the structure had been modified to suit in the late 20th century.

The proposal was to convert the upper floors into a series of self-containing flats, with a new block of flats to be constructed over the single-storey indoor market adjacent to the railway line.

A structural condition survey was carried out with a survey report to identify the potential defects and recommendations to extend the serviceable life of the structural components.

Structural advice was offered to the planning consultant on the proposed alterations, to minimise the impact on the existing building structure and to reduce potential construction costs.
