Summary
GCS was appointed as a subconsultant to provide structural engineering services to this project.
The proposal is to install two new 3” pipes to the existing pipe bridge. The existing pipe bridge is a two-span bridge with circa 29.2m clear span, over carriageways/service yard within site. Our scope is to carry out a structural assessment of the existing pipe bridge to support the additional weight.
After carrying out the structural assessment, the existing pipe bridge was found to be incapable of supporting the additional pipes. A strengthening design with the caveat that there be no disruption to the working site (i.e. no pipes are allowed to be dismantled to allow the installation of the strengthening works) was then produced.
A site visit was arranged and undertaken under short notice to obtain the required information prior to carrying out the strengthening design and calculations.
A 3D structural analysis model was created for the structural assessment and strengthening design, with drawings and calculations provided for tender and construction purposes.
